VAN LIFE
Eldorado Dry Lake Bed | Winter 2020
I lived in my Dodge Sprinter van from April - September 2020 and am now living in it again in Spring 2021. I originally bought the van so I could continue to explore during COVID, but what started as a 2nd choice option has turned into my favorite way to travel North America. I’m hoping this website enables and inspires me to write about my time in the van, take photos of all the beautiful places I see (as well as the not so beautiful sides of van life), and share my life on the road. Thanks for coming along.

It’s been almost 3 months since I’ve slept in any bed except for the full-size in the van. While I haven’t been solo this entire time, the amount of solo time that I have spent in the past 3 months has been more than any other time in my life.
One of the most ever-present feelings I’ve had since buying the van is guilt. You’d think it would be excitement, or nervousness, or terror (or for you city-dwellers…fear of never showering again). But nope, it’s been guilt.
We drove four hours east from Ontario, OR (where we picked up the van) to make camp for the night. I used a combination of the iOverlander app and FreeCampsites.net to find a free public land campsite for the night and it was a beauty!
Since the van was in Oregon, I had to drive there to pick it up! It was about 13 hours from Denver so I knew I didn’t want to do 26 hours of driving alone so my friend Alex joined me!
I wish I could go back and pinpoint the first time I learned about van life. It feels like something that would be imprinted on me….but for whatever reason, it’s not. I’m going to try and explain why I decided to move into a moving vehicle.
